Fashionista's October Shopping List: 17 Items Our Editors Love

Occasionally, we use affiliate links on our site. This in no way affects our editorial decision-making. For those who have also been dreaming about October’s crisp weather since June, it’s finally time to dust off those transitional wardrobes. After unearthing our respective sweater stashes and prepping for a busy Halloweekend, team Fashionista is reflecting on all the fall fashion finds that filled our online shopping carts this month. Our editors had handbags on the brain this October, ranging from a chocolate-colored bucket bag to an embossed croc leather clutch to a colorful plaid oversized tote. We leveled up our closets with a sleek pencil skirt, a slouchy V-neck sweater, olive green wide-leg satin pants and a utilitarian funnel-neck jacket. As for our autumnal accessories, we reached for pony-hair sneakers, squiggly gold earrings and podiatrist-designed clogs. Ahead, see (and shop!) all of our editors’ favorite fashion discoveries from October. ...

In the Age of Algorithms, Teen Magazines Are Making a Comeback

Since the 1950s, teen magazines have helped young people — girls, especially — navigate the rollercoaster that is adolescence. By the late ’90s, they reached a sort of peak, with titles like Seventeen, Sassy, YM, CosmoGirl, Tiger Beat, Teen and Teen People flying off newsstands. But with the sharp rise of digital content between 2004 and 2010, teen media all but faded away. Tavi Gevinson then made a formidable attempt to bring it back in a modern, digital-meets-analog format with Rookie , but even that met its end by 2018. While growing up, Millennials managed to experience a bit of both worlds: print magazines and social media, landlines and iPhones, CDs and streaming apps. But for those born after Y2K, the world was digital-first. With (seemingly) everything in the palms of their hands, teens have had less motivation to pick up a glossy IRL, hence the medium’s sharp decline. At the same time, beloved youth-focused media titles remained part of the cul...

How Brands Are Licensing 'ACOTAR''s Fantasy World Without a Visual Blueprint

Warning: Spoilers for the “A Court of Thorns and Roses” series below. After Sarah J. Maas announced the long-awaited sixth installment of her “A Court of Thorns and Roses” (“ACOTAR”) series earlier this year, it was only a matter of time before the beloved romantasy saga started making the licensing partnership rounds. Ahead of Tuesday’s release of “A Court of Splintered Harmony,” brands are catering to one of BookTok’s biggest audiences by stepping into the spellbinding world of Prythian with character-inspired fragrances, Bat Boy embroidered panties and even a Monopoly board. (Yes, really.) But these aren’t your typical licensing partnerships. Many popular book series first became blockbuster movies or fan-favorite TV shows before venturing into the lucrative world of fan merchandise, but with “ACOTAR,” brands are exclusively pulling from words on a page. While there is an official colo...

Can Target's New 'Beauty Studio' Win Back Customers?

Target has long inspired a particular kind of loyalty. It literally sells its own merch. For many shoppers, the retailer offers more than a place to pick up toilet paper and pet food: It’s where they grab Starbucks and get lost in discovering new beauty brands, finding affordable fashion and seeing both their taste and values reflected on the shelves. But the retailer’s relationship with some of its customers has grown more complicated in recent years, particularly as it has faced backlash over its LGBTQ+ Pride merchandise  — or lack thereof — and, more recently, its decision to scale back several formal diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. In February 2026, Target’s new CEO Michael Fiddelke shared his vision for a fresh start, promising a merchandise makeover that includes a new beauty section (and food and other major categories). In an interview with AP , he was asked whether the boycotts over DEI changes affected sales. He adm...
