These are the stories making headlines in fashion on Friday.

ShopMy Accused of Manipulating Affiliate Commissions

Researcher Ben Edelman is accusing influencer platform ShopMy of pushing retailers to favor its links and cancel commissions owed to rival affiliate networks, departing from the industry’s standard last-click attribution model. ShopMy, now valued at $1.5 billion, has not commented on the claims. The dispute underscores growing competition across the $210 billion affiliate marketing industry as platforms increasingly compete for credit on the same sales. {Business of Fashion/paywalled}

Boohoo Fined $2.7 Million Over Fake Discounts

France’s consumer watchdog fined British retailer Boohoo €2.3 million ($2.7 million) for deceptive practices, including inflated discounts and mislabeling synthetic products as “leather” or “suede.” Nearly half of the promotions (48%) reviewed were found to be price increases, while another 40% weren’t genuine discounts. The penalty follows a $100 million U.S. settlement over similar claims four years ago, with Boohoo saying the issues stemmed from a period under previous management that has since been resolved. {Reuters/paywalled}

Marquee Brands To Acquire Roots

Brand management firm Marquee Brands finalized a deal on Thursday to acquire Canadian retailer Roots Corporation for C$4.10 per share in cash. Marquee has teamed up with JM&A Design and Development, who will serve as core operating partner of Roots. “Few brands are as deeply connected to Canada’s identity as Roots,” JM&A President & Creative Director Joseph Mimran said in a statement, adding that the plan is to build on that strength while staying true to the brand’s character. The board unanimously backed the transaction, which is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. {Fashionista Inbox}

Demna Brings Back Gucci’s G-String

Drawing on the brand’s seductive appeal, Tom Ford created the now-iconic G-string thong that debuted at the label’s Spring 1997 show. More than two decades later, new Artistic Director Demna referenced that provocative era in his February Milan debut, sending Kate Moss down the runway in a diamond-encrusted version of the thong. {The New York Times/paywalled}
