Origin Story

After moving from Vietnam to the U.S. at 18 years old, Michelle Nguyen trained as an esthetician and lash tech before eventually opening her own salon. Believing that supplying product to lash salons had the potential of being far more profitable than owning salons, Nguyen started selling lashes out of her garage, which grew into PLA Beauty, now the largest professional lash brand in the U.S.

After 15 years of wearing lash extensions, Nguyen developed an allergic reaction to the adhesive. She tried every DIY lash on the market, but many poked and lifted. Nguyen leaned into manufacturing innovation, specifically 3D printing, to overcome these challenges. Nguyen spent a year collaborating with OPT, an MIT-adjacent engineering firm whose clients made medical devices using 3D technology, to 3D print a lash. The result is TAD Beauty. Powered by proprietary “Memory Flex” technology and featuring a unique microstructure that helps the TAD lash hug the natural lash. TAD lashes are the first DIY lashes to be printed on a curve, allowing them to wrap around the eye and spring back to shape after sleep and after pressure.
